I am someone who is constantly on my feet. Whether it’s hiking in the mountains, backpacking through various foreign countries trying to make the most of my time by walking around every city, or working 12 hour night shifts in the Emergency Department, my feet take the brunt of my adventures. That’s why it is so important to me to have good shoes, and SOCKS. I was unaware of just how much a pair of socks can make a difference until I tried Silverlight Hiking Socks, and let me tell you, if you are on your feet like me, these are incredible. They keep my feet happy and healthy. What more can you ask for of a sock?

Product Testing
I tested out the Silverlight hiking socks by wearing them for hiking in the Jemez Mountains. It is almost summer here in New Mexico and the perfect time to get outdoors. I live pretty close to the Jemez Mountains and that is where I decided to break in these puppies. I wore these socks with my hiking Tevas (It’s fashion, look it up) and with running shoes. I hiked to the top of a waterfall, through canyons, and even frolicked in a meadow wearing these socks. I also wore them during some particularly brutal night shifts in the Emergency Department. Every time, I was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable, supportive, and durable they are.
My Honest Opinion
When I tried out the Silverlight Hiking Socks, I had no expectations. I threw them on and off I went on a little adventure. It was actually the LACK of noticing the socks that made me acutely aware of how COMFORTABLE they are. There are no hot spots, rubbing, or slipping. They provide gentle compression and arch support, which as an ER nurse, I love. The socks stay in place, whether I’m hiking to the top of a waterfall or running to a code. I didn’t reach down to pull up my socks once. The fact that they’re made with silver for antimicrobial protection and odor prevention is amazing. Have you ever been on a multiday hike and end up getting a pair of socks wet so you have to re-wear a pair and pull them out of your bag and realize where that smell is coming from? Luckily for you, these socks will prevent that scenario from happening. Or at least mitigate it because they are also quick-drying! If it seems like somebody who genuinely gets out and hikes thought “I want to make a pair of socks that has all of *these* essential qualities”, it’s because that is exactly what happened. I seriously love these socks and can’t wait to wear them on more adventures; and because they are super durable and have a lifetime guarantee, I can.

Silverlight was founded in 2019 by Ralph S., a trail runner and hiking enthusiast who developed the Silverlight Hiking Sock, crowd sourced through Indiegogo. As people who intimately understand the struggles of making sure their feet are cared for in the outdoors, Silverlight was passionate about creating a high-performance sock that was “better than anything else you’ve put on your feet”.

The Silverlight hiking socks came delivered in a #INVISIBLEBAG which I was intrigued by off the bat. This black bag is water-soluble and dissolves! As instructed on the bag, you can use hot or boiling water >80* Celsius. Stick the bag in the boiling water, stir it, and put it down the drain. It is that simple. One less bag to try to recycle or end up in a landfill.
Why is this bag special? It is water soluble and landfill biodegradable, so even if you don’t have time to make it disappear, it’s not made from forever plastics and won’t end up polluting the earth for the 20 years like other single-use plastic bags. It is made without PP< PE< PS< or PVC plastics. The package is compostable and non-toxic. This is my first time receiving a package in an invisible bag and I am thoroughly impressed. Would I Recommend Silverlight’s products?
Silverlight is a sustainable eco-friendly brand that is actively taking a role in supporting efforts to reduce climate change and deforestation. They have created products for outdoorsy people, by outdoorsy people with all the essential attributes, in something as overlooked as socks.
I love that the Silverlight Hiking Socks deliver on what they claim to do. They stay in place; I have not yet had a blister while wearing them and was pleasantly surprised by the lack of smell when taking them off after 14 hours on my feet. I would definitely recommend their products to my friends who hike, as well as my colleagues, who are often one and the same.
The beauty of these socks is that they can worn in any situation and still perform. I didn’t even know what I was missing until I received this package in the mail, but now I don’t want to go hiking without them. It really is the Silver Lining.
